‘Hands On! A Community Skills-Share Fair’ on Sustainable NE Seattle!
February 7, 2015 @ 10:00 am - 5:00 pm
From: Joann Kerr, Sustainable NE Seattle
Sustainable NE Seattle is collaborating with Meadowbrook Community Center to offer our 5th annual ‘HANDS ON!’- a community skills–share fair.
What is a skills fair?
A day of sharing practical skills with our neighbors – we will have short workshops on a wide variety of skills, from sock darning to bread baking to fruit tree grafting. The day will include a luncheon and speaker.
When? Saturday, February 7, 2015
Skills from 10-5, Lunch from 12:00-12:45
Where? Meadowbrook Community Center, 10517 35th Ave NE, Seattle, WA 98125
Building resilience – If we can build a neighborhood where we know how to take care of our needs close to home – we are more likely to do well in difficult times
Growing Community – If we work together, share resources, eat and celebrate together, our community fabric grows stronger!
Reducing waste – if we can repurpose that old sweater, it stays out of the landfill.
BUT, we can’t do it without all of our community stepping up! If you have a skill you’d like to teach (you don’t need to be an expert) or know someone who does, or can help in the organizing and prep, respond to firstname.lastname@example.org with what you’d like to offer. We are imagining the workshops to be 30-60 minutes long, and we hope to have resources available to provide needed supplies. We’d like to offer some workshops especially for kids and teens. Below are some of the past categories in which we’ve had workshops – but if you have new ideas, let’s hear them.
Fiber Arts and Crafts
Cooking and Baking
Repair and Maintenance
Alternative Cooking Methods
Paper Arts and Crafts
Resource Conservation Techniques
Make your own soaps, lotions, candles, etc.
If you have questions, comments, want to teach something, learn something, offer your help in organizing, or anything else, please let us know as soon as you can! email@example.com
Thanks for being in our community!
Hope you can participate in the Hands On! Skill sharing. Sharing a skill thru teaching is as rewarding as learning a new one. Look forward to hearing from you.
