Meadowbrook Community Council

At our March meeting we elected the existing Board to another one year term with one condition, that this would be the last term for Dan Keefe and Charlene Murray. Thank you and we hope to continue to serve the best interests of Meadowbrook. With that in mind, Pam Bowe will be running our May meeting while Dan visits his grandchildren in Helena, MT. He will be around to run the July meeting.

Our May 9th meeting will feature a representative from CM Juarez’s office and may include CM Juarez herself. In addition, we will have a representative from SDOT Safe Routes to School division (Stephanie) who will give us an update on our long awaited start to the construction (June 2017) of the sidewalk segment on Ne 110th between 39/40th Aves Ne. She will be this project’s key point of contact, so please be prepared to also ask any pertinent questions you might have. We will also hand out the latest milestone updates to Brian Dougherty’s spreadsheet that contains the list of the various sidewalk and crosswalks, etc projects.
Of the three proposals we submitted as part on DoN’s new Your Voice…Your Choice program (replaces NPSF), one was selected for final voting which is the 4-way stop at Ne 98th St and Ravenna which is being championed by Wilma Boyd.

There will be an update on the Emergency Hub and our inquiry into becoming a fiscal sponsor for Matching Funds projects. The committee formed to apply for funds to improve the grounds at Jane Addams MS is having trouble getting volunteers. Finally, the Community Garden and Orchards has held some 8 to 9 work parties since coming back to life in March. Work Parties are currently scheduled for 3-5pm every Sunday with a pot luck following.

Please mark your calendars and support Pam by coming to the meeting.

Meadowbrook Community Meeting–March 14, 2017 7-8:30PM

Location: Meadowbrook Community Center 10517 35th Ave NE, Seattle, WA 98125

It’s already March…hard to believe!! At our March meeting we traditionally elect officers for 2017. Like last year, the existing board members are all willing to serve another term, so I will propose that the board be re-elected by consensus vote.

Our featured presenter will be Gary Prince who has roots in the Meadowbrook neighborhood. He is a project Manager for King County Metro and will be making a presentation of Metro’s ambitious Northgate Transit Oriented Development (TOD) project. The vision is to make the area around Northgate a “vibrant inclusive community of all incomes live close to where they work, play and shop with convenient access to a transit hub.” I heard his presentation to the Thornton Creek Alliance Board and I was impressed.

The elections plus Metro’s presentation and other news about your Meadowbrook neighborhood will make for another interesting and important reason to get together. The Sidewalk Committee will report on the three proposals we submitted as part on DoN’s new Your Voice…Your Choice program (replaces NPSF) and there is an update on the status of Brian Dougherty’s list of projects in our area.

There will be an update on the Emergency Hub and meet our new HAM radio operators. Becoming a fiscal sponsor for Matching Funds projects is being considered by the MCC Board. A committee is forming to apply for funds to improve the grounds at Jane Addams MS. Finally, the Community Garden and Orchards are coming back to life and we will fill you in on plans for 2017.

Please mark your calendars– Looking forward to seeing you at the meeting.
Dan Keefe, President
